Protoplasm Support
iPhone, iPad and Apple TV
A liquid light show you can play with. Requires iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 or later on iPhone and iPad, or tvOS 17 or later on Apple TV.
Play on iPhone and iPad
- Drag a finger to add oil. Open the tool corner for ink, stir, sprinkle, soap and pen.
- Twist two fingers to turn the dish.
- Press and hold to press the top glass.
- Adjust Focus from the menu to soften or sharpen the image.
- Enable motion access to move the liquid by tilting your device.
- Leave the show alone to let the Artist perform.
Sound on iPhone and iPad
Basic microphone reactivity is included free. Turn on the microphone control and allow microphone access to let nearby sound move the light. Sound is analyzed on your device and is not recorded or uploaded.
Apple TV
Protoplasm on Apple TV has no audio input or music reactivity. The Artist performs on its own. Click the Siri Remote to open the menu, or press Play/Pause to take the dish. Put the remote down and the Artist takes it back after 20 seconds.
Recording and upgrades
The App Store 1.0 release is free and includes no video export, pause-to-compose or in-app purchases. The web preview and development builds may show additional features.
If the show does not start
Check the version requirements above, then close and reopen Protoplasm. If the problem continues, email us with your device model, OS version, app version and any message shown on screen.
If motion feels too strong on iPhone or iPad
Turn off motion input to use touch controls. Protoplasm also responds to the system Reduce Motion setting. Take a break if the moving visuals feel uncomfortable.
